How Adoption Works
From first hello to happily-ever-after in four simple steps — most adopters go home with their new family member the same day.
Four Steps to a Forever Friend
Browse & Visit
Look through our adoptable pets online, then visit during open hours — Tuesday through Sunday, 11am to 6pm. No appointment needed, and video calls are available if you'd rather start there.
Meet & Greet
Spend one-on-one time in our meet-and-greet yards or cat lounges. Bring the whole household — including resident dogs — for introductions.
Counselor Chat
A short conversation, not an interrogation. Our counselors help make sure the match fits your home, schedule, and lifestyle.
Go Home Happy
Sign the adoption agreement, pay the fee, and head home with a starter bag of food, records, and a free first vet visit at our clinic.
What Your Fee Covers
Adoption fees never come close to covering the true cost of care — the difference is covered by donors. Every adoption includes:
- Spay or neuter surgery
- Age-appropriate vaccinations
- Microchip with lifetime registration
- Flea, tick & heartworm testing/prevention
- Free first wellness exam at the Pet Rescue Clinic
- 30 days of pet health insurance (activation required)

Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to bring to adopt?
A valid photo ID, and if you rent, a copy of your lease or your landlord's contact info so we can confirm pets are allowed. If you're adopting a dog and already have one at home, bring your resident dog for an introduction.
Can I put a pet on hold?
We offer 24-hour holds for a $20 deposit, applied to your adoption fee. Holds are limited to one pet per household at a time.
What if the adoption doesn't work out?
We're your safety net, always. Any pet adopted from us can be returned at any time, for any reason, at any point in their life. Within 30 days, we'll also apply your fee to a different adoption.
Do you adopt to families with young children?
Absolutely — many of our pets are kid-tested by staff and foster families. Counselors will point you toward animals with a track record around little ones.
Are the pets house-trained?
Some are, some aren't — each pet's profile notes what we know from foster homes and staff. Every adopter goes home with our free house-training guide, and our behavior helpline is a phone call away.
Do I have to live nearby to adopt?
Not necessarily, but we do ask that you come to us. Most of our adopters live in Spring, Klein, Tomball, Humble, Kingwood, The Woodlands, Conroe, or north Houston. You're welcome from further afield — we just don't adopt sight-unseen or ship animals, so plan on making the drive to meet them in person first.
